Which is more efficient: internal or external training?

Some employees prefer to travel for a training than to have it internally. That cost more, but is it efficient?

INTERNAL TRAINING HAS ALWAYS LONG VALUE AS TRAINER IS THERE TO COACH THE TEAM,,,,,    TEACHING IS GIVING KNOWLEDGE,,, WORKING ON THE GIVEN KNOWLEDGE IS LEARNING,,,

Internal training is more effective, and last for longer period of time.

External training together with internal coaching and mentoring. The rationale is that external training takes place in an environment that allows the employee to detach from the working environment and focus on the subject on hand. Internal coaching and mentoring allows the application of what learned within the contest of the company environment.

I always support however that training programs are tailored by the company management in coordination with the trainer; I have never bought an off the shelve training package.
