They say that "necessity is the mother of invention", in Ahmed's example I would think that the people living near the pyramids want to sell their wares to the tourists and to do this successfully and compete with other traders, they have listened and learnt and in this way improved their "spoken" English skills. No doubt some of them can converse effectively in other languages as well!
you should practise the four skills but the most important is listening as we learn languages like our babies learn native language.You know that there are people in the pyramids area in egypt that speak english well but they can't write?they communicate and practise.Regards
