From the people I know, sales people are the quickest employees who switch between companies. If you'r a sales person in the Oil&Gas industry, can you switch to sell insurance policies for example?
I've sold everything...from coffee to tshirts to software to cosmetics to web hosting to services....I never get tired of testing my limits.
Never make your marketing strategies that are tailored to just one industry, if you make a strategy that works on ANY product/service/category, then you are making gold with your thoughts.

For a professional sales person to perform, he requires only to update the new product knowledge. Other knowledge required are basically same for all the other sales.
No i dont think a sales person can sell anything . First part we must understand what product he is going to sell if it is FMCG product then the skill sets required are different than selling a IT product . Knowledge about product is the most improtant part for selling , with half knowledge or no knowledge it is difficult to achieve desired result . Even different skill is required to sell to B2B & B2C , one can not appy same sills for both
