Humility aside, I can do varied genres of writing from simple essay, blogs, writing for the web, journalistic writing, copywriting, script writing, to academic writing quite proficiently. I have also done a handful of poetry but have not concentrated on it due to other priorities.
For me, it's not necessarily have to be a big leap to another writing genre. I should say, it's just a matter of personal mood. I mean, sometimes I feel like writing only blogs this week. Or, when I see an important news or current events, I'd be prompted to write an Op-Ed (Opinion Editorial).
using different skills of writing is flavourish way to amuse the reader, you give them varities of flavors to enjoy from, you can't serve them chicken flavor soup, you have to have seafood soup, tomato soup, mashroom soup etc to enjoy it.

Being more proficient in one gentre of writing than the other one would show how you can muster all your energes and writing skills to write better and be more creative. However, shifting from one style or train of throught to another one requires a deeper and objective understanding of the situation around you; the readership for the shifted style, the mmarket, the nnature of media outlets, among others. One or two writing pieces can neither shhow your greater expertise nor can they guarantee that you are master of that genre! The essenntial thing is...that you should be ablle to write honestlly, competently and bee able to measure up the feedback to your writing.
