Because Land management is related to geodetic and geomorphic features of the earth, and GIS is basically a tool for land management system, which gives us very good visualization of large piece of Land on single screen, as well as its precised measurements, dimensions and direction, for this purpose, satellite images ( by remote sensing) GPS (Global Positioning System) data, DEM's (Digital elevation models) are integrated to produce digital 2D &3D maps which can easily be utilized for Land management Purpose

There are many other applications as well

Roads map

Wells Data (location) etc

Petrol pumps, hospital locations,

Shortest possible routes

& much more

GIS is becoming essential to understand what is happening and what will happen-in geographic space. Once we understand, we can prescribe action.

Urban planning requires including many layers of detail on a single map, and one of the features of a GIS is multilayered mapping. Each of these layers has different types of information and data associated with it. A municipal planning committee can use a GIS to see a variety of different things, including prime agricultural land, surface water, high flood frequency, and highly erodible land. This multilayered capability can make a big difference when developing an area, for example places with high flood frequency could lead to high flood insurance premiums for residents, which may detract from people wanting to live there.

The land is a scare resource involving a wide range of rights and responsibilities. When poorly managed, it can become very prickly often leading to disputes, conflicts, degradation, and long litigation often spread over years, causing a variety of social, economic and environmental problems.  One of the best solutions is for countries to carefully map their land parcels so as to get a better understanding of their situation.

Parcel information is all the documents, maps, attribute and attribute information that represents rights and interests in land. It includes things like ownership, legal description, location, and nature and extent of a particular piece of land. Parcel information plays an important role in the economic development of individuals and communities.
