Sticking your neck out means taking a risk! In the days of Henry VIII sticking your neck out meant that you were about to be beheaded!! A modern day explanation is that if you were to stick your neck out of a train or car window you were running the risk of hitting your head on something!!

"The manager is sticking is neck out telling the customer we will be ready on time, we don't even have all the materials that we need to do the job yet"!!!
