How do you punch up words to make your writing more exciting?

I don't usually use high fallutin words in my writing.  I rather use simple words that strikes at the core of the message, and describe it thoroughly to allow my readers "see" what I envision.

Use words that convery humour, use4 words that convey what you want to say, use word that are culturally compatible, use images that your readers have the visual literacy about...........and always be natura, warm and empathetic.
