Its the verstality of sales section which determines individual designation.Top to bottom of sales department has to come across business customer. Designation comes with experience and skill.
In real terms all sales persons right from the Sales Man to President (Sales) are the Sales Representatives who have divided their roles in different capacities but going to the markets and facing the customers is every ones responsibility. It is important to get the feedback from the horse mouth directly which is normally helpful in correcting the strategies made by the Sales Manager. I would rather suggest for every Sales Manager to visit the markets, meet the Channels Persons, Customer, know their feed back, get the information about the Competitors and New Innovations etc himself if he or she wants to make a long term career in sales.
Sales Manager is a very greedy person, if a business customer who is from top10 highest sales customer then Sales Manager will meet him..................if not then will send any person.

It so because the Sales manager recognises the business customers to be the main chain that keeps their business running and without them, they know that they can't be in business. therefore with professionalism in the business, the sales manager will know exactly which business language he/she will speak to seduce the customer.
IMO, the question may not be phrased as I would have written this. If I am presented as a Sales Manager it would be of a certain product, Equity & Loans, FX Trading, New Imports, etc..., as a departmental designation. A Sales Manager would be the Head Sales Manager - who would differentiate from the others in the company.
