<p>Why each microwave use some devices called <strong>IDU</strong> and <strong>ODU</strong> ?</p>
IDU which is also known as indoor unit while ODU which is outdoor unit. These two are connected though cable which is called IF cable. IDU changes the RF signals into IF signals that carries through IF cable and reach to the ODU that again changes the IF signal into RF signal which further transmit through microwave dish
Microwave systems include four major components: (1) a radio for signal transmission and reception, (2) interfaces that connect the radio link to one or more information pipes (sources and destinations for the information being sent/received), (3) a modem for modulating and demodulating the radio signal so that it can carry information, and (4) an antenna that shapes and directs the radio signal to another such microwave link.
Basically an microwave system contains to sections, indoor unit (IDU) and outdoor unit (ODU).
The RF unit is an outdoor unit (ODU).The IF, signal processing, and MUX/DEMUX units are integrated in the indoor unit (IDU). The ODU and IDU areconnected through an IF cable.
The ODU can either be directly mounted ( Direct Mount ) onto the antenna or connected to the antenna through a short soft waveguide ( Seperate Mount ).
