I believe in both of them. Luck plays an important role in our career. No matter how hard we work finally the will of Almighty Allah prevails.

Secondly, this is an era of information technology and artificial intelligence. I think "Smart Working" is much more important than "Hard Working".

Hard work purely because you can not legislate for luck! We will, all of us, be lucky at some stage of our working lives, whether that luck be good or bad but it is something that we cannot rely on whereas we know where we stand when we work hard especially when justly rewarded for our endeavours. One of the greatest and hardest working golfers, Gary Player, was once described by an opponent as lucky when he succeeded with a particularly difficult shot, the shot was the  result of hours of hard work and practice, Gary, undaunted turned it around and replied: "Yes, and the harder I practice the luckier I get"!!

Well this is going to be a hard thing to explain because Luck varies by philosophical, religious, mystical, or emotional context of the one interpreting it.

"I believe in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it" -Thomas Jefferson

In my own opinion, I think hard work is the bridge between luck and success.

You might know someone who works very hard but isn't very lucky. But how were you able to say that he/she is not lucky? --probably because of absence / lack of favoring opportunities on him/her in spite of working day and night, right? Well, logically speaking, opportunities actually come everyday, mostly hidden in small things. It is just a matter of how you will use it and if ever you will be optimistic enough to notice that opportunity in front of you. You might also know some people that has been given a big break or an out-of-the-blue opportunity that ultimately changed their lives even though they are not working hard, so you call these kind of people 'lucky'. But who actually knows what they have done in order to get that opportunity and the hard work that they have given in order to seize that opportunity and turn it to success? Fortune actually favors those who are prepared, and in order to be prepared, you need to give your best into it, which is in short, another term for hard work. If your99% hard work didn't work, then you always have that1% luck that you can rely on.

I agree with answer given by Muhammad Ahmed Siddiqui.

You need both hard work and luck. Hard work does not always guarantee results. Theres a say that hard works pays off but sometimes you need that luck as well.

I believe in Hard work, and is for Hard work.   But luck may not support your Hard work than what you actually deserve.  Luck is the privilege of the lazier and not at possession of the Hard worker--so far I could witness only to this.
