When several employees are showing signs of sickness and the company would like to make sure that others in common areas are not affected.

<p>Can the company ask them to take time off to recover or see a doctor to get a note that they're  not contagious?</p>

No.   The situation leading to shut down has to be avoided at any account.   As an emergency, the health wing of the Organization may check the employees and give proper care including preventive care.    Those really affected has to be given off.   In emergency, the organization may hire skilled workers.    Life blood of any Organization is that it keeps on moving, and every action must be directed to keep moving the rolling wheels.
