I believe it already a standardized in network but its not a total replacement of physical infrastructure. Software defined network is aimed to be economic, efficient, effective and very importantly its a consolidated way of defining networks. Its more easy manageable and scalable to extends which implementers wants to be. Already most of the network device providers developed scope of virtualized platforms by the acceptance such as VMWARE and HYPER-V etc.

In my opinion, we cannot say that virtualized networking infrastructure is capable of totally replacing the existing physical infrastructure. It will always be utilized in Hybrid mode. It is a good way to utilize resources and make complex and more secure network systems, but in the end, it requires all the physical nodes, routers, switches to travel out. But yes, it seems that usage of virtualized networks will expand more & more.
