Within professional environments, no form of racism, sexism, religious bias nor any form of discrimination should be allowed to take root among supposed peers or colleagues in the first instance, yet this does happen more often than we'd like to think. You have the moral high ground, but bigotry is deeply entrenched and to confront it may cause more hate to thrive. If, however, the situation becomes unbearable, you may want to check with your manager, HR, the conditions of employment or the labour laws, where appliccable. You have rights to not be discriminated against, it's a basic human right too. You get to be the professional in all circumstances, you will put them to shame. Everyone can see bigots for what they are, hopelessly irrelevant.

I always cope with this with keeping in mind " Treat others the way you would like to be treated with kindness and respect"!

I usually be friendly, leave comments of others aside and keep working my job and interact with these treating me badly only on a professional basis. I have learned that revenge or resentment is a waist of my time and have seen the wrong doers being punished and know there is some we all need to account our actions through out our lives!

Working in a field dominated by males is not easy ... some think women can not do the job; some think because you have a different education you are not suited for the same job or pay. I have received reverse prejudiced people not to speak of those which do not wish to talk to you because you are not the same nomination in the same religion.

I keep in mind that one day they will be called up on and have to account for there actions!

I am an Indian. Unfortunately racism is a part of the environment we live in and is here to stay the reason being racists are people who lack self respect and hence the constant need to undermine others around them to feel good about themselves.

We also should not ignore the fact that there are a few who show a lack of self respect in turn inviting racist behavior from the opposite party.

To site a few funny racist comments I have encountered:

1. My work mate tells me " You being an Italian I hope would not need a work visa?". Well I am an Indian who is western educated speaks good English and physically does not fit the bill of a typical Indian male but does that make me any different from my men? I think not, when I pointed it out my work mate apologized.

2. At the airport my fellow traveler looks at me and goes "So hows it in Egypt? I have heard it is a beautiful place". How should I know I have never been there!!

3. My friends back in India says "So you must have met some beautiful women during your Europe stay". Well this means we are racists as well in stereotyping the typical westerner female as an easy to come by girl friend.

What I am trying to say is racism has nothing to do with religion, skin colour or any such parameters it simply means there are a bunch of ignorant fools out there who regret their past choices and are not ready to accept the facts that led to their sad state in turn they stereotype people based on country and religion to feel good about themselves. Relax be cool and after all once our duty on this earth is done we are going to be judged by the God almighty :-)

The challenge to deal with what we do not like no to deal what we like.

That is the self-mastery.

Well, I being a beard man had have been working with Britishers in England and been facing the same problem. Racism is a perception people make about other without personally knowing them and that what exactly happened with me initially but slowly slowly settled down with the time passed.

The solution to this sort of problem is to be more socialize with fellow colleagues while company also needs to put stricter policy in place against bullying and racism.

The organization need to deploy the diversity

I face it working in my home country being myself... So, it doesn't matter where. Racism, based on anything whether religion or ethnicity, is a personal thing. Racists, ignorant people are everywhere. I don't think they deserve anything but sympathy. If you can't change them, you can change yourself. I just ignore and live my life.

In my opinion, racial discrimination and religion problems is found most in developing countries due to mix living ethnic person and continuously growing. We can eliminate through social activities and ethics training in our departments and industries.
