  1. Must pass materials entering the crasher on the1.5-inch sieve, to prevent the aggregates small sizes entering the batch.2. percentage of fine aggregates not more than15% out of percentage of fine materials which is not more than50%.3. percentage of filler is1(1.3 -1.5)% to get softening point(85 -95).4. thickness of asphalt pavement not more than0.15m .                                                              5.do a test for empirical section of the asphalt mix at a site to decide the max. density & the voides ratio.

minimizing rutting is mainly by eliminating the causes of rutting. this can be achieved by

1- grading of soil and mix design.( well graded soil= dense soil= low settlement)

note: well graded soil (100%) is not preferred (void ratio is needed to prevent bleeding of AC)

2- fine particles lead the mix to slide especially if AC content is more than recommended.

thank you Mr. jafar

Rutting in the pavement layer is the appearance of a drop in the layer in  form of channels along the route of highways.

Possible reasons

The weakness of materials or poor materials mix design in compression layers, in addition to inadequate compaction during construction, smoothness of the asphalt concrete, softer materials, substrates as a result of water leakage or shocks tires (Studded tires), thickness of the pavement, heavy loads and the continuous  stooping of the trucks on the road surface are all Contributes  causing rutting.

It can prevent the occurrence of such defects: -

1-quality design mixtures

2-quality aggregates

3-using a quality asphalt runny layer(Tak-coat or Prime-coat) for adhesive between the layers

4-use rate of polymer asphalt

5.  enough healthy discharge

rutting with the proper selection of

materials, good construction practices,

and the use of appropriate mix design

methods. Good quality crushed aggregates

and a higher percentage of coarse

aggregates in the aggregate gradation

play major roles in improving the shear

resistance of an asphalt mix. The

asphalt binder selected is also important

but to a lessor degree than aggregate

characteristics.

Good compaction practices during construction

will improve the rut resistance

of asphalt pavements by increasing the

interlock of aggregate particles in the

mix. Reducing the air void content

(within limits) of dense graded asphalt

mixes has been shown in the laboratory

and in full scale test pavements to

improve the rut resistance as well as

the fatigue resistance of the pavement.

Developments from SHRP have provided

new testing tools to evaluate the rut

resistance of asphalt mixes.

Modification of existing mix design procedures

to account for heavy traffic situations

can be employed now to help

designers select higher strength asphalt

mixes

I think we can use (Super pave) way because it has a lot of functions that make pavement stay for long time with rutting.
