I think windows is the most popular os though it is not free unlike linux. Linux has its popularity only in the academic fild. windows started the1st gui graphic user interface with the dos(disc operating system) running in the back ground. Vista was a failure but win7 was a suces. Win8 was the bridge beteween a mobile and a computer but was not liked by the elderly.
