One of the first things businesses do during periods of economic difficulty is to cut back on expenses.
But this is a survival tactic.
Your brand and business should not be interested in just surviving; it should be trying to constantly grow.
This is why smart companies should seize on the opportunity to increase their market share during recessions and use these ‘quiet periods’ as a chance to shout the loudest by increasing their marketing budget and diversifying their efforts.

I would say use it wisely, and utilize multiplication impact to gain more exposure. Social Media is one of the best way to gain wider advertising impact and at the same time enable targeted customer to participate in the process.

Increase or reduce? well i would say use it more wisely to achieve best results without risking quality or bring negative impact to the brand/company
