I agree with Tayyaba Sameer, every person is different from the other. This is where a good management stands out. Implement moral, welfare and recreational activities atleast once a year to get to know your people. Managers should be equipped with at the least of trainings to distuingish the personalities of individuals in his unit so that every employee would be motivated tailor-fit to their needs.
5. Create your own answer
There isn't a one size fits all approach to motivating employees. Even well paid employees need motivation. Reasonable wages and benefits can be motivational in the short run only but to keep motivation level up for long it is important to consider what majority of your employees need to make their lives and jobs easier. Some people need better career opportunities whilst some just need a better pay. Motivation has to be tailor made to each group of employees.
A leader must provide an innovative work environment by allowing the brainstorming, encouraging the innovative ideas.
