Personal interview is the most common method yet it has many limitations, some avoid it by using psychometric test yet not always convenient for all candidates due to the cost implications.
I prefer structured interview and competency based interviews as it support the equal opportunity methodology and can be analysed by balance scorecards.

Most common type is personal interview if you are hiring a person within a same city….Then telephonic interview is the second most common way if person belongs to some other city or country and now these days recruiters are also using Skype ..
