Here's my idea of essential skills one should have before starting their own business. An entrepreneur should have have the determination and drive towards their chosen business idea with the willingness to take risks when necessary. They should be innovative and always 'think outside the box' introducing new ideas, suggestions, creatively enhancing original methods to best suit the business. Their commitment is essential therefore putting in time outside of working hours to attend to business needs, ensuring their character reflects in the way they act and dress. Aside from the above there are also other very important skills such as communication and being able to network with others internally and externally in order to advertise their business idea, generate an audience and obtain clients. Also in order to run a business one should be able to adapt, sacrifice and adjust to new routines, life styles and rapid change. A successful entrepreneur would possess knowledge and understanding of the requirements such as financial literacy, research methods to find the niche in the market and identify their target audience, make clear concise and unbiased decisions in regards to a business or the employees with a lawful justification. Finally their planning, organising and implementation skills would reflect on the strategies used to run a successful business.

Entrepreneur must have2 basic qualities before starting his or her business. Number one he/she must be confident enough about his abilities and ability to take risks.

There is a difference between personal attributes such such as drive, patience, confidence compared to skills which is what the question is asking. The essential skills required could include basic accounting, people management and the relevant skills to the business. If its a restaurant business then perhaps some gastronomy skills, IT business maybe programming skills and so on.
