If you want to be able to use a USB drive and use OpenOffice in your Mac and on other people's Windows machines, then go to http://www.portableapps.org and get OpenOffice for Windows as a portable App that can run straight from the USB, and you can carry an installer and install it for free on anyone's Windows computer (or just send people the link if they say 'hey, you sent me an Open Document and I can't open it...' - because Microsoft play dirty and don't make Office work properly with agreed open formats... Get Open Office for your Mac. When you want to send documents to other people, then just make sure they can open them (everyone can use OpenOffice free, and you can click the 'pdf' key to export stuff in Portable Document Format - to make sure it displays properly and prints properly on any computer/printer whatever software or fonts they have installed. Say NO to .doc or .docx format - it's evil! If anyone sends me files in my email that are 'Microsoft' files, I send them a reply:
