Basically SAN has two types FC (fiber channel) and ISCSI.
Some storages are hybrid and my act as FC and ISCI simultaneously.

There are two broad types of storage networks - NAS and SAN.
NAS is file-level access which includes CIFS and NFS protocols.
SAN on the other hand is referred to block-level access which works on protocols such as FC, iSCSI, or the new FCoE.
