Uptime Institute is ab organisation which defined the TIER levlels of a Data Center & TIA-942 is standards defined by Telecom Industries Assosciation (TIA) for the Data Centers

TIA-942 are standards which can or cannot be followed by an organization to reach a tier level. Just like ISMS standards. Whereas, up time institute certifies your DC on tier level I, II, III or IV. They also provide consultancy services to help you in clearing the certification for the DC.

Uptime Institute is a consortium of companies that engage in education, publications, consulting, certifications, conferences and seminars for the enterprise data center industry and for data center professionals. It is best known for its widely adoptedtier certifications of data centers.

Where as TIA- Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Center is an American National Standard (ANS) that specifies the minimum requirements for telecommunications infrastructure of data centers and computer rooms including single tenant enterprise data centers and multi-tenant Internet hosting data centers. The topology proposed in the standard was intended to be applicable to any size data center.
