Sales : It achieves the goal (target ) - Sales Team have to - just play the20:20 match to win the guidelines, strategies & where to attack & where to be defensive- have been made clear & discussed with the captain & trainer/instructor -who are the team leaders .

Marketing : Makes plans, strategies, road maps, does market survey and research makes guidelines to achieve this goal .

One of the major Success point for any product / brand / company / service / organization-depends on the plan made by the marketing and execution of those plans, effectively in the market by the sales team -is what is my view . This is a department which is interconnected for all purposes, but act separately and if sales person does not tune properly with the marketing person & customer the bridge can never be made solid because its the plan of marketing & he/she is the internal face - sales person is the external face towards the customer on day to day handling .

Marketing focuses on long term concerns while sales is related with short term focus.Marketing is related with educating and creating awareness of the product or service in the market. Sales is also related with educating and creating awareness but the difference is scale. Marketing does these activities on a huge scale while sales does these activities on very short scale and most of the times one on one basis. Sales is more related with interpersonal and interaction with prospects.

Functions of marketing and sales - are different, but, nevertheless, very closely linked. As a rule, "sales" can not exceed the planned amount of revenue without effective marketing planning and support, and directives of the "marketing" in the end turn out to be useless without the help of sales for the implementation of the plan.
