In a nut shell, brand managment is the art of creating an image of the brand in the consumer's subconscious.
It is a long term proccess that it being achieved throught all the marketing activities.
Like making the consumer feels how luxurious your product/service is, or how cool, or manly or whatever.
For example, Mercedes, look at their advertisings, and see how they are showing you how luxurious their brand is and how the owner of their product looks and acts like, to make you dream to be that guy in the ad, and whenever you thinks of a luxurious car, the first thing crosses your mind will be Mercedes.

 A short replay form my side, a brand is an image, a value, satisfaction, utility which a user enjoy and brand management is all about achieving those objectives and this is not an easy job . Business earns and loss due to their brand and their management. Brand management is a communication function that includes analysis and planning on how that brand is positioned in the market, which target public the brand is targeted at, and maintaining a desired reputation of the brand.
Developing a good relationship with target publics is essential for brand management.
Tangible elements of brand management include the product itself; look, price, the packaging, etc.
The intangible elements are the experience that the consumer takes away from the brand, and also the relationship that they have with that brand.
A brand manager would oversee all of these things.
