How best can one remove a faulty PLC I/O module without interrupting the whole plant process?

A Tank level was reported showing empty on the SCADA, to find that it was the input module which failed, but chilled liquor is needed some where yet other parts of the plant were running and I need to avoid down time.

Two Probable Solutions

1. Use Redundant I/O Module which u can switch in case of trouble automatically.

2. Bypass that input (for the time being) with temporary memory flag and continue running untill you physical change that input to new location.

Thanks
