Both of which can be helpful and productive .
Feedback helps to improve performance , ensure standards are met and communicate important business objectives .
Feedback is a form of ongoing training as it helps employees learn what it is they are supposed to do and how they are supposed to do it.
Positive Feedback
Positive feedback works on the premise of building on a person's strengths . It tells an employee what he is doing well and praises him for good performance .
Managers can give positive feedback in both a formal manner, such as in a performance evaluation, or informally, such as a comment made during the workday that praises work done .
Negative Feedback
Negative feedback is the process of pointing out what someone is doing poorly and telling him how to change it .
Manager can deliver negative feedback whether the employee's actions are intentional or not .

Methods for you to use and be efficient at work should include both positive and constructive "negative" feedback to be most effective in the work place.
Techniques for Effective Feedback
Rule of3 x3
Bert Decker is his book, You've Got To Be Believed to be Heard, talks about his3 x3 Rule when giving feedback. His method forces the manager to give balanced feedback by focusing on three strengths and three areas of development when analyzing performance and behavior. Capping it to three keeps the information succinct and easily remembered. Decker says, "Receiving three bits of feedback at a time allows people to make course corrections, like a guided missile, as they keep moving onward and upward." The goal is not to flatten someone's ego but rather to give them encouragement and to challenge them to improve.
Don’t say: “There was far too much information presented in the slide presentation and I’d like to see you limit it to12 slides.”
Say: “Your presentation was extremely thorough and the graphics well done. However, to keep the attention of your audience, I would like to see you condense this information to12 slides so people can easily remember what has been presented. I know I can always count on you.”

Both feedback can be used depending on the situation, positive feed back mean we can fellows the previous instructions and negative feedback always make us cautious, and stop to make mistakes again.
Both the methods are useful. Positive feedback shows a person strength and negative feedback shows his/her weakness and doesn't mean he/she is useless. Through Negative feedback a person can improve him selves but the thing is how the way he accept.

POSITIVE & NEGATIVE FEEDBACK
Which is more effective in improving an individual’s or team performance: using positive feedback to let people know when they're doing well, or offering constructive comments to help them when they're off track? New research suggests that this is a trick question. The answer, as one might intuitively expect, is that both are important. But the real question is — in what proportion?
Researchers found that5.6 positive comments to1 negative comment was the average statistic for the best performing leadership teams. So, the most successful teams had a ratio of about6:1.
The normal performing team had almost2:1, meaning two positive comments for every negative. The lowest teams had about3 negative comments for every positive one.
Apparently, minimal negative feedback and maximal positive feedback produces the best results. A couple of instances when negative feedback might be appropriate are: when a leader needs to really grab an employee's attention or when a manager needs to combat complacency.
The overarching conclusion here is that the best way to motivate, instill loyalty, boost performance, and maximize productivity is through positive feedback and comments.
A recent scientific study reported that negative feedback can produce positive results, but, negative feedback can produce positive results in some circumstances, but only positive feedback possesses true power to motivate.

I think there is no clear difference between positive and negative feedback. Its just a matter of perspective. For example: Instead of saying: "I dont like how you did...", you could say: "Your idea is not bad, but there is some areas that need to be improved. After that, I will evaluate and reconsider it." Thats how you turn negative feedback into positive and at the same time motivate your employees. And from employees point of view, that is certainly positive feedback because it shows that your boss believes in you and it actually drives you forward. So like I said, it is a matter of perspective and character.

POSITIVE FEEDBACK = works on buliding on a person's strengh.Telling the employee what he is doing well and praise him for his good performance.
NEGATINE FEEDBACK = pointing out for the employee where he is doing poorly, and direct him to change and improve it.
BOTH FEEDBACKS (POSIVE AND NEGATIVE) CAN BE HELPFUL AND PRODUCTIVE.
Feedback is very useful tool to help improve staff perfoamnce, and both positive & negative feedback methods are importnat and effective in workplace.
Positive feedback provide recognition and encouragement, particularly for employees will help self-confidence and encourage to give more efforts and improvement.
Negative feedback I personally prefer to call it constructive feedback and its important because it helps an individual manage himself, discover new skills and rectify their mistakes so that they do not repeated them in the future. Constructive feedback is a direct communication between the manager and his subordinate about the task he has not performed in a required manner.
