Under the Hire Purchase system only the Possession of the Goods is transferred to the Buyer and not the Ownership.

Under Installment system Both Possession and Ownership is transferred.

HP gives the right to take back the possession along with the claim for 'damages". ; whereas in installment the seller has the right only for the recovery of Installment money due along with 'damages' for the delay in payment of the installments.

In HP system the vendor has right to take back the possession of the goods as it has the almost same term as rent-out something where the ownership remain in the hand of Owner/Seller.
