The main aim of writing a Scientific research is to express your scientific work - whether it can be an experimental laboratory work or even data collecting with additional auditing and emphasizing - in to a written manuscript with well understood, clear purposes and declaring your aims and thoughts about the purpose of this work to be done.
The research Pyramid or body consists of :Literature review, The Purpose of work, Methodology, Results and the Objective explanation of those results.
So, if there is no ultimate project to start your writing, you will lose your self from the beginning

The key for a successful research in my opinion is the literature review.
Your literature should be as solid and comprehensive as possible because it is the backbone of your entire research.
Any flaw in the literature review will lead to flaws in the entire research.
So make sure to review all possible sources and related studies before you proceed in your research, and refer to them accordingly.

Define a question Gather information and resources (observe) Form an explanatory hypothesis Test the hypothesis by performing an experiment and collecting data in a reproducible manner Analyze the data Interpret the data and draw conclusions that serve as a starting point for new hypothesis Publish results Retest (frequently done by other scientists)

Hmm...
all of your answers are quite amazing.
Well, in my opinion the principles for a successful scientific research are: 1.
Ask significant questions that can be answered empirically.
2.
Link research to relevant theory.
3.
Select and apply research designs and methods that permit direct investigation of the question.
4.
Provide a coherent and explicit chain of reasoning that can be replicated.
5.
Replicate and generalize across studies.
And finally, 6.
Report research publicly to encourage professional scrutiny, critique and replication.
Some people thought the last part (6) may not be in the principles but i think without sharing your work/idea to public you wouldn't call it an Idea in the first place.

I agree to your answer Reem Boudraa.
But it depends what kind of research you are conducting, what is the design of research and what have been the motives behind conducting research.
I think principles for writing research is a broad topic and there are books written on this topic.
so, it will be unfair to comment in a short answer.
