Employees are the REAL capital an organization owns. It is a fundamental issue for any organization seeking success and having a clear vision to have a vivid image on how to develop and invest in its employees- its capital- using a set of sufficient sources for this purpose. Basically, having a strategic trend to invest and develop the competencies of the employees is a MUST to reach the organization's tactical, operational and strategic goals successfully. To sum up, employees are the backbone of any organization, and developing them is the right way to keep the organization healthy.
It depends on employee and organizational demand. Resource and training both are important for career development of employee's.
It's answer is very simple, do we periodically do maintenance of our car? do we take care of our home structure? the answer is YES! so just hiring employees and expecting from them to fulfill the organization requirement without providing them training is like buying a car with no maintenance, do that car run for a longer period??? No. Similar, if employer want to have their employees updated and perform well and contributing as per the requirement then they should update their skills!
I would say it depends on size of organization and field. Assuming you are in the technical field I think it is very important to keep up with advancements in technology, therefore it is extremely important that proper training or resources are available for employees to keep the company performing its best. Also you might want to keep in mind that while this is an option for companies it isn't mandatory; however it will be in the best interests of the company to keep their employees up to date with the new advances.
That is as much important as the rain for the earth !
