Sometimes by having kids work in groups, they'll become more creative as they bounce ideas off each other. To teach them higher-order thinking, one of the best things you can do is a "think-aloud." You share a problem with them and solve it yourself, saying the reasons why you did each step and how you came to your conclusions.
