Training Need Assessment, this is the same way when we went to a Doctor and he examine us and prescribed the most suitable medicine to overcome the illness or disease. Similarly, HR performs the TNA exercise in order to highlight the key learning area or needs so that employees have been trained and develop to effectively perform their duties or fulfill the future or new role!
It is systematic approach of collecting the data, analyzing it and planning the procedures or processes to address the gap between the current and desired conditions in a community, organization, etc. In simple words it facilitates in identifying the gaps between the organization/community current performance and the targeted objectives.
Based on planning, the program could be designed, implemented (Normally as pilot project), feed back is asked & evaluated, improvements are instituted and finally the process of training is standardized.
TNA must be based on following:
A training needs assessment is the process of identifying the "gap" between performance required and current performance. When a difference exists, it explores the causes and reasons for the gap and methods for closing or eliminating the gap.
Training Need Assessment=Desired performance-Actual performance.
