Evaluation is always against a reference.

Performance evaluation is performed against clear objectives provided to the employee before time.

Most of the times, employer just use this practice to exploit employee's situation.

The main objectives of doing performing evaluation are;

How did the employee perform against given objective/set targets

                If the performance is100%, the employee must be rewarded

                If not, find out the hurdles

How is employee emerged during those times, and how can the new skills be used to grow business

What is the employee development opportunity

etc. etc.

This is one of the best concepts of employee motivation and control.

Now-a-day this is just a mean of filling some papers and look good.

Besides evaluating the performance, review meetings are an important part of the performance review process for the below reasons:

 -It is a fair opportunity for both the employee and employer for expectation setting at the beginning itself, deciding the standard of performance, current performance, strengths, areas of improvement, career path for progress etc. At the end of the performance review process, the employee should not be surprised with the rating/outcome. The result should be an expected one thereby leading to happy, satisfied and motivated employees

-Encourages open communication between different levels

-Important for employer branding
