I. Believe structure is important and I believe dress code is also important,I believe the Google experience succeeds in companies that are competing in Blue Ocean Strategy where you have a product needed by most people and currently not offered by others.
In most companies we have worked for where Red Ocean Strategy prevails I believe formal structures are important for the optimization of output as we are competing in every aspect of business and how we carry ourselves and promote our image over other competetors is important.

Google make us actively involve in various activities as a matter of self interest without formally directing what we have to do.
In the same way an informal work environment can also make the employee to engage actively in the attainment of goals set by the org by collective contributions and all that is possible how well the organization exerts their desire, skill and motivated efforts make them to fulfill their tasks with increased output with less corrections, create co-operative work environment, less migration from work and abstention with a sustained prolonged employment cycle.
It depends on the sector of the business. Finance oriented company can only work in a formal way. Here documentation proof and procedure is a must.
