EIA study is very important for major development projects because it is concern with the present and post project environmental conditions (physical, biological and social conditions) that affect man negatively and other lives on which man depends on and for which he cares.
Secondly, the study is aimed at assessing the short and long term impacts on the environment in question( especially the external and physical conditions that affect the well-being of man and other lives on which man depends and for which he cares) and to draw up an environmental management plan that would be used to mitigate the subsequent impact on the environment for sustainable development.
it is a key stone to assess the impacts and propose the mitigations that by the end support the sourrounding environment including the socity to support and sustaine this project.
Environmental impact assessment are highly essential for major projects as it identify valuable environmental resources in the community and surrounding area that may be affected by a proposed development; evaluate the community’s capacity for additional development given environmental protection priorities; identify the deficiencies or tradeoffs between possible development alternatives or courses of action and the environmental impacts associated with each alternative; determine which groups in the community may be directly or indirectly affected by the project or action.
