The two types of Donations received by Non-profit org. are 1.General Donations and 2.Specific Donations. How and in what way you segregate them?

Earned Revenue        - General

Un Earned Revenue  - Specific

They are all general unless they are specified.

By maintaining two separate Project accounts in GL, one for general purposes and another for specific causes. This would assist in tracking the movement of revenues and expenses.

Specific donations: When the donation comes with a specific direction that it shall be used for a specific purpose, say a Corpus Donation, voluntarily given with a specific direction from the person making such donation that it shall form part of the corpus of the NGO and it should not be included to compute the total income of the organization. 

 

All other donations not so specified will then be considered as general donations.
