Layers are use to control colors, line type and visibility in a drawing. Proper use of layers makes a complex drawing much easier to work with and makes it easy to understand.
For Example if you are making Layout of a production hall. You can separate machines, boundary walls, reference/center lines, ducts in different layers. If you work in a particular layer, it will not affect the contents of other layers.
