I agree with mr. Shetty in his answer. Indeed Marketing ans Sales have one feature in common which is they strive towards the same objectives of increasing revenue, market share, brand awareness, benefits, customer base and other related issues. Their strategies may differ, but they are based on the same sources and aim at the same goal.

Marketing is the process of planning for the sales process in terms of publicity for the product market research study of the target population develop marketing plans for the product and monitor sales in the implementation of this policy and marketing has no relationship to the sale

Though Marketing & Sales are important components of success of the Company , Organisation or Industry.

But both the functions are Independent (Ideally 'Should be') but some of the common features  should be:-

1) To seek the same Objective (Of Increasing the revenue, customer base & Market Share)

2) To have the same vision ( Where is the company situated NOW & where it aims to see in FUTURE)

3) Strategies of both should yield the same - Not just meeting customer expectations or requirements but to exceed them. Technically the "Wow" factor etc :-)

In Basics from the book point of view it has much difference in some countries Both fields are different while in some countries they do selling but call it marketing. Some fields have both department and utility while some have no.

 

But the common thing is the end result is to generate the Revenue
