Are technology skills required for good leadership?

In the past I had several managers without technical background - every single time for the first few weeks/months I spent/wasted ~30% of my time explaining them what I'm doing and why its right way...

 

summary: it depends on position and area of leadership but in most cases its great asset if leader at least can understand basics of technology - in my opinion level of technical knowledge should grow with risk & responsibility

Definitely technology, specially mobile apps & cloud-based solutions are now very important and vital part for achieving a high performance management attitude and that obviously will dramatically increase the overall productivity and reduces costs. App like Evernote is extremely helpful in notes taking and documentation and most importantly it supports the live collaboration when multiple colleagues can work on the same project form different locations. Google Apps also provide many services that facilitates daily work tasks. there are enormous number of technologies and apps that helps mangers and employees in doing their different job responsibilities. Cloud Computing technology also providing very useful mechanisms for automatically backing up data.Other than the above mentioned concepts and technologies there are many other tools and techniques that sore sure can increase the overall performance for leaderships.

Not necessarily. Good leadership needs a leader with positive outlook, adept to understand the whole operation activities, has an art of decision making, can post solution on particular problem and has the ability to visualize the direction / future of the organization.

Definitely the knowledge of technology is very vital but not necessarily the expertise on technology is required  for good  leadership is more into experience, knowledge and patience
