In the past I had several managers without technical background - every single time for the first few weeks/months I spent/wasted ~30% of my time explaining them what I'm doing and why its right way...
summary: it depends on position and area of leadership but in most cases its great asset if leader at least can understand basics of technology - in my opinion level of technical knowledge should grow with risk & responsibility
According to me leadership requires10 qualities as:
1 Honesty
2 Ability to delegate
3 Communication
4 Sense of humor
5 Confidence
6 Commitment
7 Positive attitude
8 Creativity
9 Intuition
10 Ability to Inspire
Not very necessary, more into experience, knowledge and patience.

Google Apps also provide many services that facilitates daily work tasks. there are enormous number of technologies and apps that helps mangers and employees in doing their different job responsibilities. Cloud Computing technology also providing very useful mechanisms for automatically backing up data.Other than the above mentioned concepts and technologies there are many other tools and techniques that sore sure can increase the overall performance for leaderships.
