The virtue of a person learned and respected by others for the behavior and moral qualities of a person can be termed as character. These qualities are very determinant to make  a general opinion in the form of good/excellent or negative just to make some references that build the reputation of an individual.  As Abraham Lincoln mentioned: Character is the tree and reputation is its shade..you will get reputation only when the character is good and more than others expectations.
