Despite the global efficiency of free trade, most states prefer the protection system. One of the reasons is the precarious state of world affairs. Some people believe that as long as there is a risk the possibility of war, the country should not totally rely on foreign materials. The other reason is to support the entry of workers, and the companies that may get hurt because of low-price imports. Many of the least developed countries and used trade protection system, to encourage small industries.

And justify those who prefer free trade, that trade protection may prevent the country's prosperity, and may lead to national isolation and national jealousy, and to the threat of war, which in turn requires greater protection they believe that free trade leads to international understanding and world peace.

Free Trade is - GLOBALIZATION and GLOCALIZATION . ie removal of TRADE BARRIER  ( removal of Trade Blocs such as ASEA, EFTA , NAFTA ) and progressive reduction of TARIFF BARRIERS and other restriction to block INTERNATIONAL TRADE , actually moving to SINGLE CURRENCY among member countries - example EURO  ( which is still not easily acceptable by major members of EU ) .

FREE TRADE should be world with GLOBAL BASKET wherein consumers are at free will to buy anything from anywhere without any POLITICAL or BUSINESS restriction , ideal situation of  a perfect COMPETITIVE MARKET with free entry and exit
