Yes absolutely, auditors need to be able to understand that a business is reporting it accounts correctly, otherwise how would they accurately demonstrate that a company is in a good or bad financial state.
not like that an auditor should not be a good accountant but an auditor should have knowledge of accounts, purchase, sales that means whole business process. so there is no option to think an good accountant will be a good auditor .
An auditor should be a good accountant because the subject matter he is auditing is the financial statements which are prepared from Accounting Standards.. so if he doesn't know the accounting standards then he can't audit that and thus can't provide an opinion where it is true and fair..

Yes I do. An accountant can become an Auditor. And without having a good grasp of accounting, the auditor may not perform well while conducting an audit.

A good auditor must be a good accountant, because it would give you an inept knowledge in your audit work because you will be aware of the technicalities of accounting. Before you can audit an account perfectly well you must know the fundamentals on which the account is prepared.
