The kernel is the important module of an OS. The kernel is responsible for memory management, process management, task management, and disk management. It connects the system hardware to application software.  Kernel is the first thing that is loaded in the main memory. A kernel should be as small as possible because it stays in main memory.  And it should provide all the essential services required by other parts of the operating system and applications.
