Although there is some debate over the usefulness of standardized testing, a lot of recruiters who use these tests on a regular basis will confirm that these tests can give a more objective overview of the character, strengths, weaknesses and working styles of applicants. Standardized tests help recruiters gain insight into behavioral traits and/or the personality of a candidate, which can be extremely difficult to do, unlike the case with aspects like education, skills, experience, appearance and punctuality which can be easily assessed during, and sometimes even before an interview. These tests are usually used as part of a larger process rather than in isolation - thereby allowing the recruiter to make a more informed hiring decision. The right tests will help potential employers to gauge the future performance of a candidate and hopefully improve employee retention.
