Group dynamics is a system of behaviors and psychological processes occurring within a social group (intragroup dynamics), or between social groups (intergroup dynamics).
Group dynamics play a significant role within any organization, culture, or unit. The important thing to remember with any of these structures is that they are made up of people, people with different ideas, motivations, background, and sometimes different agendas.

Group dynamics is a very large subject that is tough to put into a brief answer here. However, the answer from Ibrahim Hussein is quite accurate. From an organizational perspective, I can say that we are bothered about what impact individuals have on a group, and how they are affected by others in the group. The reason why we organize so many team-building training programs in companies to form better bonding between employees - so that the dynamics between members of the team work in the positive direction.
It is about how cohesive they are, how participative, how they solve common problems. Let's take some examples - we are all aware of the intergroup dynamics between Gavaskar and Kapil Dev when they were both in the same team (or for that matter, the dynamics between Sehwag and Dhoni). When individuals use their negative energies to pull down each other, run down each other, score a point at any opportunity, the dynamics work against the organization. If you take positive examples - Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman for example, you see how they backed up each other, supported each other, and got positive results for their organization.
That's where we come in - it is important to understand the positive and negative forces that act in any team, try and put supporting forces together, ease out the negative energies that emerge in any team, so that the organization succeeds ultimately.
Hope this helps.
