Gout (also known as podagra when it involves the big toe)[3] is a medical condition usually characterized by recurrent attacks of acute inflammatory arthritis—a red, tender, hot, swollen joint. The metatarsal-phalangeal joint at the base of the big toe is the most commonly affected (approximately50% of cases). It may also present as tophi, kidney stones, or urate nephropathy. It is caused by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood
Gout otherwise known as podagra (inflammation of the big toe) is a defect in urate metabolism which is caused by either overproduction or undersecretion. MTP(metatarsal phalangeal) joint of the big toe is usually the affected site, but gout can be symptomatic in ankles, knees and feet, presenting as excruciating pain, redness & tenderness in the affected joint along with fever.

The most common joint involved are the first MTP joint (Great toe), but other joints can be involved like ankles, knees and elbows. The symptomes are pain, swelling with inability to move the involved joint. It is associated risk factors like eating diet high in protein (red meat and fish), Alcohol (win), and extensive excerise. treatment includes NSAID, colchicine and long term therapy with allopurinol in addition to reduce risk factors.
