What is your opinion about predictive text? Does this inhibit people or help them with language?

I find more than80% of the people I speak to don't know the difference between words like Your and You're anymore.

They either type with cellphone text, or use auto correct with no further thought to the topic at hand...is language losing its edge?

It is ironic that we are in an age where we have the latest gadgets, numerous spelling tools at our disposal, yet more than ever before, spelling and grammatical accuracy is poor.

Years ago when spelling skills were taken seriously and respected, the simplest of tools were used, mainly pen/pencil and paper. Practice, practice, practice was seen as important when it came to spelling.

Predictive text has its place, as it sometimes brings up the word you need, but not always. It should not be heavily relied upon however, as it can confuse grammar if the incorrect word is chosen.
