shapes arranged in a circle, rectangle or square ... these shapes occur more than once or in a sequence ... bore holes in an angle of45 degrees equally spaced on the same radius ... just to name one pattern

Below is the definition of design pattern:

In software development, a pattern (or design pattern) is a written document that describes a general solution to a design problem that recurs repeatedly in many projects. Software designers adapt the pattern solution to their specific project.

Pattern is an underlying structure that organizes surfaces or structures consistent, regular manner. Pattern can be described as a repeating unit of shape or form, but it can also be thought of as the "skeleton" that organizes the parts of a composition.

The design principle of patterns, use a known solution to a common and recurring problem, this allows high level communication between programmers. The other principle is to increase cohesion and reduce coupling in object oriented code. So for example a Factory pattern reduces coupling.

a pattern is a regularity, so regularity in design principles. It is something to be recognized by

Pattern is repetition of2d geometric shape in mostly two directions X & Y.

we generally say a pattern as a template.

Always pattern as template . so for2d need two directions  X  &  Y

Thanks to all Participant for sharing your knowledge.

The Definition of pattern is arrangement of repeated or corresponding parts, a decorative design, a style, a plan or diagram used as a guideline in making something, a standard way of moving or acting and a model worthy of imitation.

The term pattern relates to the use of patterns in architecture. A pattern is the formalization of a problem / solution pair, used to make an object-oriented design decision. The purpose of a pattern is to codify existing design knowledge so that developers are not constantly re-inventing the wheel.

I also went through the to improve my professional skills. First, I studied up on the SOLID principles. After that, when I started to design using these principles, most of the time, Design Patterns got automatically implemented.

Repeating visual elements such as line, colour, shape, texture, value or image tends to unify the total effect of a work of art as well as create rhythm. Repetition can take the form of an exact duplication (pattern), a near duplication, or duplication with variety.

In manufacturing

PATTERN is the REPLICA of an object which is same in size, dimension & shape. used in mold preparation to manufacture the object.

I believe there are2 definitions of Pattern in design theory?

1) Specific to design theory or sociological concepts

This definition will change from culture to culture, design concepts in different fields of science and dependent on technology and time.

Pattern can either be a sequence of matching colors that look good together based on

-- match colors or,

-- matching by contract.

OR

A pattern is duplicated prints of artwork which convey an emotion message through

-- brush/pencil/sculpture work or,

-- some sequence of colors.

2) Specific to desktop publishing softwares and digital design

(e.g. Quark Xpress, Corel Draw, Adobe Phtososhop/Illustrator, Xara)

When you place different illustrations together in a specific way so that that can be replicated in the3x3,6x6 or9x9 sequence. I have forgotten the exact sequences in Illustrator CC.
