What is the main difference between them ?
Passenger elevators : Designed to carry people between building floors. Their capacity is determined by the need of the specific building and it can vary between5 and25 people.
Freight elevators : Indented for transport of goods. Their carrying load can vary between2000 to4500 kilograms. Most often their source of power are electric engines.
Freight Elevators are installed to move materials from floor to floor. Freight elevators only carry the elevator operator or forklift truck operator since they are not designed with the same safety equipment as a passenger elevator. When a freight elevator is to carry passengers, Peelle offers modifications to the freight elevator doors and related equipment to ensure an increased level of safety.
An elevator (lift in British English) is a type of vertical transport equipment that efficiently moves people or goods between floors (levels, decks) of a building, vessel, or other structure. Elevators are generally powered by electric motors that either drive traction cables or counterweight systems like a hoist, or pump hydraulic fluid to raise a cylindrical piston like a jack.
A freight elevator, or goods lift, is an elevator designed to carry goods, rather than passengers. Freight elevators are generally required to display a written notice in the car that the use by passengers is prohibited (though not necessarily illegal), though certain freight elevators allow dual use through the use of an inconspicuous riser. In order for an elevator to be legal to carry passengers in some jurisdictions it must have a solid inner door. Freight elevators are typically larger and capable of carrying heavier loads than a passenger elevator, generally from2,300 to4,500 kg. Freight elevators may have manually operated doors, and often have rugged interior finishes to prevent damage while loading and unloading. The freight elevator differs from the passenger elevator by having a low speed, higher torque to handle larger weight. Knowing that the Power (Kw) = Speed x torque, then for the same motor power the less the speed is the higher the torque is.
An eleveator is also known as lift usually installed in high buildings to lift people to higher levels in a building as an alternative to stair cases. On the other hand, a freight elevator is used to load heavy goods and equipment onto a vehicle for further movement to where it is going to be used.
