As both are proactive maintenance , what is their main difference ?
Preventive Maintenance vs Predictive Maintenance
• While both preventive and predictive maintenance have the same objective of preventing any losses to the company and to keep the plant and machinery running in top condition, they differ in approach and requirements
• Preventive maintenance is carried out at regular intervals whereas predictive maintenance is based upon the condition of the equipment that needs to be monitored all the time
• Preventive maintenance is carried out when the machinery is in the shut down condition while predictive maintenance is done with the plant in running condition
• Predictive maintenance relies heavily on information and its correct interpretation
There are duplicated terminologies going on in industry, Don't confuse with so many different words.
In simple words, There are two types of maintenance;
Scheduled and Non-scheduled
Scheduled maintenance is also called 'Preventive Maintenance'
Under preventive maintenance, there are time based maintenance and condition based maintenance.
Under time based maintenance, there are fixed frequency (every40 hours, or weekly) and variable frequency (after every10 batches).
Condition based maintenance may be called proactive, predictive, reliability centered maintenance, or even risk based maintenance, where the signs and symptoms are monitored, before they are visible.
Non-schedule is break down maintenance, also called reactive maintenance.
That is all it is....
I think if you can think predictive you can act preventive
I agree with all the explanations proffered, however it is also important to note a certain characteristic of planned maintenance which is often overlooked. If your planned maintenance system is working very well it either means that the maintenance windows or the periodicity of maintenance is exaggerated such that when you open up no major damage would have occurred. This simply means that money and resources are wasted in replacing things that are still of an acceptable standard. In my own opinion and maintenance experience I would recommend a combination of the different types of maintenance techniques to be applied on a plant item so that only the necessary maintenance is carried out.
Preventive maintenance (also called planned maintenance or planned preventive maintenance) is driven by time, meter or event based triggering. Maintenance tasks that are undertaken during PM’s are pre-determined based on a number of factors including experience, age, manufacturers recommendations etc.
Predictive maintenance is determined by the condition of equipment rather average or expected life statistics. Essentially, this methodology tries to predict the failure before it actually happens by directly monitoring the machine during normal operating condition.
yes both are proactive maintenance
preventive maintenance is a predefined maintenance for efficient operation on the other hand predictive maintenance is the condition based maintenance to prevent unwanted shutdown.
maintenance Engineering is vital in any construction project
predictive maintenance include getting prepared for what is next.
There are many aspects of maintenance and other plant functions that have an effect on the number of machine breakdowns and the length of downtime. Some of these considerations are not normally associated with the term Preventive Maintenance, but nonetheless contribute to equipment failure. Therefore, they should be considered as a part of comprehensive approach to Preventive & Predictive Maintenance.
i agree with all answers, our colleagues did well
