How do I increase my typing speed?

Do your ALPHABET on the keyboard starting from A right through to Z.
I know this seems trivial and back to basics, but there is no other way to increase rapid speed in typing other than this exercise.
Set all your fingers on the correct keys and start the alphabet and LOOK AT THE KEYBOARD while doing so.
The computer must be OFF (seeing your mistakes can lead to a lack of enthusiasm) Concentrate on the keyboard only.
Your ALPHABET typing speed will increase very quickly.
When you can do your alphabet at a steady pace with no hesitation, continue the alphabet but now you DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR KEYBOARD and Computer must still be off.
When you are comfortable with your speed in typing the alphabet (without looking at the keyboard), switch your computer on and type your alphabet.
Speed typists can only speed type without looking You will be amazed at how much faster you can type and you will type faster and faster.
I currently have a typing skill of98% accuracy with an average speed of about120 words per minute and this is derived from typing the alphabet.
This exercise is full proof and works.

Place your fingers correctly on the keyboard.
The Keyboard should be at waist level approximately.2.
Use both your hands for typing.3.
you must try to not see the keyboard while you type.4.
Practice : Last but not least, nothing can be done without practicing.
Practice as much as possible.
Do it regularly with extreme patience.
But don’t practice if your fingers become tired.
Leave some gap.

you need to have fast hand moves and memorizing the alphabet keys, but what is more important is to keep practicing typing until you become really fast at typing and that only comes through practice.

Practise,practise,practise and practise.Use the typing test always and you will be surprised how fast you improve your tying skills.

I would only add that it is important to be able spell correctly.

If you cannot spell too good, you will spend time hovering your fingers over the keyboard trying to remember or work out how to spell words.

Enjoy learning to type, lacking confidence only slows the whole process down.  Don't be intimidated by people you see typing quickly and without looking at the keyboard.  Remember there would have been a stage in their lives when they too started learning to type that they were slow and made mistakes too.  Keep disciplined and the touch typing and increase in speed will come.

Dear Samar,   People usually have a typing speed (avg.) of70 when you're plain copying stuff from text.
If you want to start improving speeds, try the following: 1.
Lift a text you really enjoy reading.
Type one paragraph from it.
2.
Increase your range to two, then three, eventually, practice typing up to10 paragraphs in one go.

Practice typing for long periods of time, BUT WITH RESTS! Or you'll risk having RSI (Repetitive strain injury) 4.
Go online and practice typing weird characters/punctuation/rare letters.
You'll learn a lot from this, trust me.

This might sound weird, but practicing READING and improving your English will actually increase your typing speed.
  If you're looking to increase your typing speed while THINKING, then you should really look to increase thinking speeds.
The key really is to practice.

Practice is best way to speed up your typing speed.
Make sure to use home key finger position while typing, which are: ASDF JKL; Use the appropriate keyboard, such as computer desktop keyboard, not ipad or any touch screen gadgets.
You will not learn from it.
Memorize the qwerty keys.

So far I remember you are a writer. You always asks questions in your specialty (writing). I think this is for the first time you have asked a quesion out of your happy world, i.e. writing. It seems that you have admited the importance of "typing" which is one of my specialties. I have cleared it in so many answers regarding typing that the entire stuff  / information, i.e newspapers, newsletter, emails, blogs, twits, books, journals, brochers etc is the product of moving fingers on keyboards (typing).

Your question is how to increase my typing speed?

It means you know typing, and you do your typing work somehow, but you want to do it in speed. Speed comes only with daily practice. So do it daily because "Practice makes perfect".
